Below are some facts that will help you on your journey, when choosing a custom steel structure.
We list the building dimensions as Width x Length x Height. For example, one of our models is listed as 24x41x12, meaning it is 24 feet wide, 41 feet long, and 12 feet tall. Please note that the roof of every structure is always 1' longer than the base due to 6" overhang on each end of the roof.
You'll want to prep a sizable area for your structure and ensure it can accommodate the carport or metal building. Start by gauging the width to confirm a sufficient level space. Then, measure the length, ensuring the area remains level. The height refers to the lowest point near the structure's sides—the "eave height," "leg height," or "sidewall height." Ensure the space you measure accounts for any vehicle or equipment height you intend to store. Also, plan for a taller space to accommodate a potential garage door if you decide to enclose the metal building gradually.
Certain regions mandate permits for installing carports or metal buildings. To learn about local regulations, visit your city or township's website. Most areas don't demand permits, yet investing in a certified structure is wise for sustained performance. Checking with your local authorities is crucial to determine if a permit or zoning plan approval is necessary. Should approval be required, reach out to us at sales@crosscountrycarports.com to adjust your delivery date after obtaining the permit.
Our commitment lies in tailor-made solutions, ensuring customers get the precise carport or metal building they require. With a diverse array of options, we cater to various needs. Currently, we offer carport-style buildings spanning from 12’ to 60’ wide, and custom structures like enclosed or bar-style buildings of any width. Engage with our customer service team to determine the ideal size for your needs. For metal or carport orders wider than 32’, customers need to arrange for a lift at the installation site.
Our RV covers and custom metal buildings reach a maximum height of 14’. Structures at this height require a width of 18’ or more, and in specific regions, may even reach heights of 20’ on the sides. Contact our customer service team to explore the tallest available custom metal buildings in your locality.
Although we don't install windows or doors provided by customers, we offer to frame out openings for their installation. Our technicians are equipped to frame-out windows, walk-in doors, and garage doors. To explore this option of using your own materials during installation, discuss it with your customer service representative.
Our most cost-effective choice features 14 gauge steel framing, adhering to the industry standard with dimensions of 2 ½" x 2 ½". When considering gauge thickness, lower gauges signify thicker and stronger materials. Our 12-gauge framing measures 2 ¼" x 2 ¼", boasting higher tensile strength for better snow and wind load ratings. Hence, we recommend the 12-gauge steel for regions facing heavy snowfall and/or strong winds. The 14-gauge steel represents the industry's standard frame thickness and enjoys widespread national acceptance for carports and metal structures. Both gauge options offer structural integrity, ensuring the safe use of the metal structure. All gauge options can be certified.
A certified building undergoes engineering design and receives wind and snow load ratings. In certain areas, local regulations mandate certification for any constructed building, aiming to ensure safety and public protection. States not prone to heavy snow or high winds may not necessitate certification, but some mandate certification for all new structures. Inspection requirements also vary, with some states mandating inspections for all structures and others solely for occupied ones before habitation or use.
We specialize in crafting and installing custom metal carports and RV shelters that meet certification criteria. Ensure your installation site is level and that the concrete or asphalt base is adequately wide to support the carport and anchors. Certified buildings don't come with additional warranties but signify compliance with local building standards as certified by a professional engineer.
If certification is necessary, providing blueprints for engineer review is likely required. Contact our customer service representatives to understand how to obtain a copy of the blueprints.
Investing in side panels enhances protection against the elements—sun, wind, and rain. These panels bolster the structure's support and strength from back to front. Particularly, if acquiring a carport or RV cover exceeding 10’ in height, consider incorporating at least one side panel for added structural support. Explore our range of side panel options and engage with our customer service team to understand the advantages they offer in detail.
Typically, commercial buildings necessitate multiple permits. Before our installation commences, it's crucial to consult your local building permit authority to understand the prerequisites. While our installation timeline remains unchanged, ensuring you have all the essential permits and documents prepared beforehand is vital.
